In this work, a surface mount inductor has been utilized as an extremely small antenna and an ultra low power 400 MHz on-off keying (OOK) transmitter (TX) was designed for wireless body area network (WBAN) communication. The proposed topology was the first TX for non 50 ohm system with the smallest ever reported antenna, which is suitable for implantable medical devices. The proposed TX was designed and fabricated in 180 nm UMC technology, which was characterized successfully post fabrication.
